ZeroNet site and application development

Sites and applications on ZeroNet, the peer-to-peer web where visitors host the content and no central server can take it down.

ZeroNet is a peer-to-peer web. A site has no hosting server: visitors download it over BitTorrent and serve it to the next visitor, and its address is a cryptographic key that only its owner can sign updates with. We build sites and multi-user applications for that network, for communities and publishers who want their content to stay reachable without depending on a host.

What we take on

Sites served by their visitors
ZeroNet sites distributed over BitTorrent, where every visitor keeps a copy and helps serve it to the next.
Multi-user ZeroNet apps
Forums, blogs, chat and marketplaces built on the ZeroFrame API, with user content stored in each site's database.
Key-based addresses and signing
Sites addressed by a public key and updated only by whoever holds the matching private key.
Offline and private access
Pages that open without a connection once visited, with optional routing over Tor.
Moving an existing site across
An existing website or community rebuilt to run on ZeroNet, alongside its normal web address.

A good fit when

Questions we are asked

What is ZeroNet, in one sentence?

A network where websites are shared between the people who visit them, using BitTorrent to distribute the files and a cryptographic key as the site's address.

Can a ZeroNet site have logins, posts and comments?

Yes. Through the ZeroFrame API users sign their own content, and each visitor's copy of the site's database is kept in sync. Forums, blogs and chat all work this way.

Do visitors need special software?

Yes, the ZeroNet client, which runs on their computer and opens sites in a normal browser. We can also keep a conventional web address alongside it for visitors who do not have the client.
